Welcome back to our series on learning Arabic! In this session, we will continue to build upon our vocabulary and grammar, focusing on expressing likes and dislikes and talking about daily routines.
Vocabulary
Likes and Dislikes
I like: أحب (uħibb)
I don't like: لا أحب (lā uħibb)
I love: أعشق (a'shaq)
I hate: أكره (akrah)
It is good: جيد (jayyid)
It is bad: سيء (sayyi')
It is sweet: حلو (ħilw)
It is sour: حامض (ħāmiḍ)
It is salty: مالح (māliḥ)
It is spicy: حار (ħārr)
Daily Routine
I get up: أستيقظ (astaqīẓ)
I go to sleep: أنام (anām)
I eat: آكل (ākoul)
I drink: أشرب (ashrab)
I study: أدرس (adrash)
I work: أعمل (a'mal)
I go to school/university: أذهب إلى المدرسة/الجامعة (adhhab ilā al-madrasah/al-jāmi'ah)
I watch TV: أشاهد التلفاز (ashāhid al-tilfāz)
I listen to music: أستمع إلى الموسيقى (astami' ilā al-mūsīqā)
I play sports: ألعب الرياضة (al'ab al-riyāḍah)
Grammar
Expressing Likes and Dislikes
To express likes and dislikes in Arabic, you use the following formula:
subject + verb + object + (like/dislike indicator)
For example:
I like coffee: أحب القهوة (uħibb al-qahwah)
She doesn't like tea: لا تحب الشاي (lā tuħibb al-shāy)
They love pizza: يعشقون البيتزا (ya'shuqūn al-bītzā)
I hate vegetables: أكره الخضروات (akrah al-khuḍarawāt)
Talking about Daily Routine
To talk about your daily routine in Arabic, you use the present tense of the verb. The present tense is formed by adding the following prefixes to the verb root:
أنا (anā) - I
أنت (anta) - you (male singular)
أنتِ (anti) - you (female singular)
هو (huwa) - he
هي (hiya) - she
نحن (naħnu) - we
أنتم (antum) - you (male plural)
أنتن (antunna) - you (female plural)
هم (hum) - they (male)
هن (hunna) - they (female)
For example:
I get up at 7:00 am: أستيقظ في الساعة 7 صباحًا (astaqīẓ fī al-sā'ah 7 ṣabāḥan)
She goes to work at 9:00 am: تذهب إلى العمل في الساعة 9 صباحًا (tadhhab ilā al-'amal fī al-sā'ah 9 ṣabāḥan)
We eat lunch at 1:00 pm: نأكل الغداء في الساعة 1 ظهرًا (na'kul al-ġadā' fī al-sā'ah 1 ẓuhrān)
They go to bed at 11:00 pm: ينامون في الساعة 11 مساءً (yanāmūn fī al-sā'ah 1 masā'an)

Exercise 1: Expressing Likes and Dislikes
Translate the following sentences into Arabic:
I like chocolate.
She doesn't like ice cream.
He loves mangoes.
I hate spicy food.
They like to listen to music.
Exercise 2: Talking about Daily Routine
Translate the following sentences into Arabic:
I get up at 6:00 am.
She goes to school at 8:00 am.
He eats lunch at 12:00 pm.
I study in the afternoon.
They go to bed at 10:00 pm.

أحب الشوكولاتة (uħibb al-shukūlātā)
