This reflective piece examines the implementation of a fish-themed unit within an English as a Second Language (ESL) classroom, focusing on the successes, challenges, and areas for improvement in my teaching methodology. Students learned the names of various fish species (e.g., clownfish, angelfish, pufferfish), their habitats (coral reefs, deep sea, freshwater), and relevant descriptive adjectives (e.g., vibrant, sleek, poisonous). We utilized flashcards, interactive games like Bingo and Pictionary, and online resources with accompanying audio pronunciations to maximize vocabulary retention. This proved highly effective, with students demonstrating significant improvement in their ability to identify and correctly use new vocabulary related to fish and marine life.

Grammar instruction was seamlessly integrated into the thematic framework.
