German word classes are the different types of words in the German language. They are similar to the word classes in English, but there are some important differences.

Interjections

Nouns

Nouns are words that refer to people, places, things, or ideas.

Nouns are classified into two main types:
Common nouns refer to general things, such as "dog", "table", or "book".
Proper nouns refer to specific people, places, or things, such as "John", "Berlin", or "the Eiffel Tower".

Nouns also have gender in German. There are three genders: masculine, feminine, and neuter.

Verbs

Verbs are words that describe actions or states of being.

Verbs are classified into two main types:
Action verbs describe actions, such as "run", "jump", or "speak".
State verbs describe states of being, such as "be", "seem", or "feel".

Verbs also have tense, mood, and voice. Tense indicates the time of the action or state of being. Mood indicates the speaker's attitude towards the action or state of being. Voice indicates whether the subject of the verb is the doer or the receiver of the action.

Adjectives

Adjectives are words that describe nouns.

Adjectives are classified into two main types:
Descriptive adjectives describe the qualities of a noun, such as "big", "small", or "red".
Possessive adjectives indicate ownership of a noun, such as "my", "your", or "his".

Adjectives also agree with the noun they describe in gender, number, and case.

Adverbs

Adverbs are words that modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs.

Adverbs are classified into several types, including:
Adverbs of manner describe how something is done, such as "quickly", "slowly", or "well".
Adverbs of place describe where something is, such as "here", "there", or "everywhere".
Adverbs of time describe when something happens, such as "now", "then", or "yesterday".

Pronouns

Pronouns are words that replace nouns.

Pronouns are classified into several types, including:
Personal pronouns replace the names of people, such as "I", "you", or "he".
Demonstrative pronouns point to specific people or things, such as "this", "that", or "these".
Indefinite pronouns refer to people or things in a general way, such as "someone", "anyone", or "everyone".

Prepositions

Prepositions are words that show the relationship between a noun or pronoun and another word in the sentence.

Prepositions are classified into several types, including:
Prepositions of place show the location of something, such as "on", "in", or "at".
Prepositions of time show the time of something, such as "at", "on", or "in".
Prepositions of manner show the way in which something is done, such as "with", "by", or "on".

Conjunctions

Conjunctions are words that connect words, phrases, or clauses.

Conjunctions are classified into several types, including:
Coordinating conjunctions connect words, phrases, or clauses that are equal in importance, such as "and", "but", or "or".
Subordinating conjunctions connect words, phrases, or clauses that are not equal in importance, such as "because", "although", or "if".

Interjections

Interjections are words that express strong emotion.

Interjections are not usually classified into a specific word class, but they are often used to express surprise, anger, joy, or sadness.
