Hangul Consonants
Silent Initial Consonants
Hangul has four silent initial consonants: ㄱ, ㄷ, ㅂ, and ㅈ. These consonants are pronounced only when followed by a vowel. For example, the word "가다" (to go) is pronounced "kada," while the word "다가" (to approach) is pronounced "taga."
Aspirated and Unaspirated Consonants
Hangul consonants can be either aspirated or unaspirated. Aspirated consonants are pronounced with a puff of air, while unaspirated consonants are not. The aspirated consonants are ㄱ, ㄷ, ㅂ, ㅈ, and ㅅ, while the unaspirated consonants are ㅋ, ㅌ, ㅍ, ㅊ, and ㅎ.
To aspirate a consonant, simply release a puff of air after pronouncing the consonant. For example, the word "가다" (to go) is pronounced "khada," while the word "카다" (to cut) is pronounced "thada."
Doubled Consonants
Doubled consonants are pronounced with a strong emphasis. To double a consonant, simply repeat the consonant twice. For example, the word "갓" (hat) is pronounced "kat," while the word "깍" (to peel) is pronounced "k'ak."
