Welcome to Spanish 2 Literature! This course is designed to help you develop your reading, writing, and speaking skills in Spanish. We will read a variety of texts, including short stories, poems, plays, and novels. We will also discuss Spanish culture and history. By the end of this course, you will have a strong foundation in Spanish language and literature.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, you will be able to:* Read and understand Spanish texts of moderate difficulty.
* Write clear and concise essays in Spanish.
* Speak Spanish with confidence and fluency.
* Demonstrate a knowledge of Spanish culture and history.
Required Texts* Quijote by Miguel de Cervantes
* Don Juan Tenorio by José Zorrilla
* La casa de Bernarda Alba by Federico García Lorca
* Cien años de soledad by Gabriel García Márquez
Course Schedule
This course meets twice a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes. The following is a tentative course schedule:* Week 1: Introduction to Spanish literature and culture.
* Week 2: Reading and discussion of Quijote.
* Week 3: Reading and discussion of Don Juan Tenorio.
* Week 4: Reading and discussion of La casa de Bernarda Alba.
* Week 5: Reading and discussion of Cien años de soledad.
* Week 6: Midterm exam.
* Week 7: Reading and discussion of Spanish poetry.
* Week 8: Reading and discussion of Spanish drama.
* Week 9: Reading and discussion of Spanish short stories.
* Week 10: Reading and discussion of Spanish novels.
* Week 11: Final exam.
Grading* Participation: 10%
* Quizzes: 20%
* Midterm exam: 30%
* Final exam: 40%
Course Policies* Attendance is mandatory. You are allowed to miss 2 classes without penalty. After that, you will lose 1% of your grade for each absence.
* Late work will not be accepted.
* Plagiarism will not be tolerated. Any student who plagiarizes will receive a 0 on the assignment and may fail the course.
* Cell phones and other electronic devices are not allowed in class.
